30 people drag bowls through a public square. 80 flautists flood a former railway workshop. 100 voices disperse through a museum.
Super Critical Mass is an ongoing participatory sound project in which temporary communities form within 'the commons'. Members of the local community come together to create monochromatic sound fields using identical sound sources (bowls, coins, voice) in public locations such as parks, streets, malls and libraries, following memorized instructions developed within in-situ workshops.
SCM has presented work in New York, London, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh, The Hague, Prague and throughout Australia.
